Coordinators for the River Edge Parkway along the Wisconsin River want to update the 1995 version of the trail. They are also planning to combine current trails in surrounding communities, making a network of trails, a network that would greatly benefit Wausau.
"Imagine if you're a bicycle enthusiast, and you wanted to bike from Green Bay to Minocqua via Wausau," says Phil Valitchka, chairman of the River Edge Commission. "That would be an interesting trip to make, and of course in the right season, if it's a multi-use trail, and snowmobiles can drive those same trails, it puts Wausau and our neighboring communities at the center of some crossroad possibilities."
Planners will meet later this week with local leaders to further exchange ideas and coordinate plans.
