Two accidents happened about five miles from each other on Interstate 90 just east of Madison around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
According to the Wisconsin state patrol, 42 vehicles were involved in the first accident, and about a dozen were involved in the second.
No one was killed, but three people were seriously hurt. The accidents closed down I-90 for about three and a half hours.
White-out conditions and slippery roads are being blamed for the accidents.
