Congressman Dave Obey is praising a program that is helping homeowners save money on their energy bills.
He toured a home in Stevens Point on Monday, that was getting help from the CAP Services Weatherization Program.
They've already made more than 9,000 homes across the state more energy efficient.
Angeline Zalewski has lived in her Stevens Point home for more than 60 years.
She says her energy bill last winter was more than $290 dollars for one month.
Part of the reason her energy bills were so high is she didn't have enough insulation in her attic.
She says, "There wasn't nothing there just open walls. We dropped some bags in there and that helped a lot but that was during the middle of our marriage."
Zalewski says it's been 30 years since she and her late husband added that insulation to their attic.
The CAP Services Program is helping her make her stop her home from losing energy.
The non-profit group has been helping low income families make their homes more energy efficient since 1975
Zalewski has also received new energy efficient windows, and light bulbs, and all of these updates aren't costing her a dime.
She says, "I'd recommend this for someone that needs it, but can't afford it. I'd never be able to pay for all of that."
Congressman Dave Obey toured Zalewski's home and says this program helps homeowners save money, but it also benefits the economy.
He says, "This is a good example of how we are able to put people to work but it also doesn't just help those people doing the work it also creates long term investments and energy savings."
CAP Services is hoping to weatherize 172 homes this year in Marquette, Outagamie, Portage, Waupaca and Washara Counties.
