Representative Scott Suder is back in Wisconsin after completing basic training at Lackland Air Base in Texas.
The republican is happy to be home and says he has a new appreciation for what the men and women in our armed forces do.
Suder says the soldiers in his unit did find it strange to have a legislator in their company, but being a state representative doesn't get him any special treatment.
"The chances of being deployed are just as great as anyone else," said Suder. "I don't get any special privileges and I don't want any. So, if I'm deployed, I’ll happily serve."
One of the things Suder says his experience taught him was how important letters are to troops. He says if you'll send the name and address of a soldier to his office, he'll recognize them in writing.
