Neillsville Homicide

Relatives of 30-year-old Vickie Peterson went to her house to check on her after Peterson failed to show up for a party at Donna's cozy kitchen Thursday afternoon in Neillsville.

They found her at home, dead. Her baby was in the house, unharmed. Her husband of seven months, was no where to be found.

"He's a person of significance we are looking to talk with," said Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner.

Clark County authorities found Vickie's husband, Daniel Peterson, after he was arrested Thursday morning in Des Plaines, Illinois on charges of attempting to rob a bank and attacking a police officer with a knife.

Police and friends of the Peterson's say Daniel did not have a record of domestic abuse, but has been convicted of multiple felonies, including arson and assaulting an officer.

Wisconsin authorities will now travel to Illinois and talk with Peterson.

Meanwhile, back in Neillsville, the community must deal with one of the most tragic crimes in the town's history.

"I don't think Neillsville's had a murder ever," said Neighbor Kristina Soderberg.

"Nope, not in Neillsville," said family friend Kathleen Zarins. "Neillsville's a quiet little town where you want to bring your family and have 'em grow up."
