The Firefighter Fundraiser Challenge kicks off. The goal is to raise money to build the official State of Wisconsin Firefighter Memorial in Wisconsin Rapids.
Each firefighter, whether part-time, volunteer or full-time, is being asked to raise funds for a statue, gazebo and visitor center.
"It's a challenge, and I hope the firemen are just as excited as we are about this project, and we really need them to come forward and help us out and make this a reality," says Grand Rapids Fire Chief Dean Maccombs. "This is their memorial, and it's gonna be wonderful when it's done."
And there are prizes such as cruises or air travel. The more money you raise, the better the prize.
