The Keep the Wreath Green campaign seems to be working there. Only six fires have happened since Thanksgiving. That's seven less than last year.
For every fire, a red light pops up on the wreath. The white light is to honor the fallen firefighters, and the blue one is for the fallen police officers.
Grand Rapids Fire Chief Dean Maccombs says the public is reacting.
"They ask me about, 'Where did this red light come from?' and 'Where did that come from?' and 'Has Grand Rapids had a fire yet,' and you know people are thinking about it and asking about it, so we are getting out to the public, and we hope it's a good reminder."
The wreath campaign ends New Year's Day.
