The Red Cross chapters across the United States are urging families, businesses and schools to be prepared in case of a disaster.
The Portage County Red Cross is offering recommendations for the public under the Orange Alert.
Most importantly, have a disaster plan and disaster supplies kit.
"We really need to take things seriously." says Julie Hager of the Portage County Red Cross. "People think it's not gonna happen here in central Wisconsin but it certainly can."
