'Twas the day of Christmas and all through the town, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
But there was some commotion at the Wausau Fire Department, where firefighters were making the best of their holiday on the job.
The firefighters had a full-course meal cooking to help pass the time.
Being away from their families isn't an ideal situation, but most of them say their loved ones understand.
"Yeah, I've been here for 26 years," said Lt. Jim Hasse, Wausau Fire Department, "So I'm used to it ... make arrangements at home to fit into the schedule
Nurses and doctors at the new beginnings birthing center in Wausau have one of the best jobs on Christmas Day, helping welcome holiday babies into the world.
"Being born is special, I still love it after 30 some years," said nurse Peggy Kamenick, "But it's always just a little more special on Christmas."
Kamenick says the birthing center is the best place in the hospital to be working on Christmas.
The employees do their best, by dressing up, throwing parties and bringing food, but above all else, the mood of the patients helps make working the holiday a little bit easier.
"This is a very fun place to work," said Kamenick, "People are seldom crabby.”
