A Wisconsin Oneida man will become the head of the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs.

President Bush nominated Carl Artman to oversee the agency in August.

The Senate Indian Affairs Committee held up Artman’s nomination last year and approved it in September.

Artman would replace Dave Anderson, who resigned in February of 2005.

He will handle decisions involving such matters as building schools and roads, in addition to the allocation of police and water right settlements.
