Two Rhinelander men are charged with animal cruelty in connection with the burning of an eight-week-old kitten.
Michael Rocke, 20, and Gregory Specht, 33, were arrested after the November 13 burning incident. The kitten suffered third-degree burns and a second cat died from injuries it received.
Meanwhile, the Wood County Sheriff's Department is looking for information about two animal shootings. Someone shot and killed a male quarter horse in the town of Hansen, worth $1,200 on November 30. A female elk was reported dead, possibly shot to death, at an Auburndale farm on December 7.
Anyone with information on the animal shootings is asked to call Wood County authorities at 715-421-8700. The shootings could be classified as criminal damage to property because of the high value of the animals killed.
