The number of car break-ins in Stevens Point has more than doubled in the last few months.

Police say the number of thefts rises as the temperatures goes up.

Officers say more people are carefree this time of year. Many people leave their windows down in the summer when they park their cars. That's an open invitation for crooks.

People are also more likely to keep their doors unlocked.

Officer Mary Skibba says you should never leave valuables in the car, always lock them in the trunk.

And if your car does get broken into, report it right away. That helps police track and control crime in your community.
