Although it looks like good snowmobile weather out there, trails in Marathon County are not open yet.
Snowmobile coordinator Dave Marg says local lakes need about three more inches of ice before they can bear the weight of snowmobiles.
He offers some important lifesaving advice.
"Snowmobilers here in Marathon County need to be patient. One thing to remember is stay off Lake Wausau. It is not safe at all out there.”
Trails in Marathon County won't open until ten inches of snow is on the ground in order to protect the farm fields underneath.
Marg says once the snow is done falling they'll evaluate the entire county.
