Walworth County officials are reconsidering their stance on clothing-collection bins after finding out some are being placed by for-profit companies.
Chicago-based U'SAgain has installed a number of red bins. They look similar to donation bins for nonprofit organizations, but the clothes go to a recycling company that turns textiles into usable products.
Burlington officials have removed the bins because the company didn't get permits. Zoning officials in Delavan and Elkhorn are considering a similar move.
U'SAgain chief executive Mattias Wallander says the company generally only needs permission from property owners. He says the bins are placed out of traffic's way.
But Delavan zoning administrator Fred Walling says a for-profit company's bins deserve greater scrutiny.
