About half a dozen bogus $50 bills have been passed in the area recently. Wausau police chief Bill Brandimore says the counterfeits are high quality, so businesses need to be careful.
"They should instruct their employees to look at genuine notes. The best part? This hologram, if they move that around they'll see it shift colors."
Brandimore also said real bills will have embossing and a security thread running through them. Another hint is the serial number. This recent batch of fake bills all have the same one: A-l-61008676-A.
