Doyle Visits Wausau

"Stable communities are built upon home ownership," Doyle said. Under the governor's "Strengthening Neighborhoods Through Homeownership" effort, the Wisconsin Housing Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) will offer three new home buying programs and a new consumer-education effort.

The programs include:

  • Homes for Heroes (a program offering mortgage assistance for police, firefighters, and teachers)
  • Mortgage Guardian (mortgage protection for homebuyers served by WHEDA)
  • Lease-Purchase (allows future homeowners to save for their down payment while gaining equity in the home of their choice)

Wausau area Hmong Association leaders expect the program to provide much-needed help to the large low-income Hmong population in the area.
