On Saturday, July 11, 2009 at about 5:15 p.m. the Sheriff's Department received a 911 call of an ATV crash on the county ATV trail about one mile south of STH 95, in the Township of Dewhurst.
Initial investigation indicates an ATV operated by David R. Holzwarth, 35, from Mabel, Minnesota was southbound on the ATV trail with a passenger identified as Heather K. Stark 32 from Mabel, Minnesota.
Authorities say Holzwarth apparently lost control of the ATV causing it to roll over.
Holzwarth received fatal injuries and Stark was transported by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.
Clark County Coroner Richard Schleifer pronounced Holzwarth dead at the scene. Helmets were not worn by either subject and neither speed nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in the crash.
Investigation is continuing by the Sheriff's Department and DNR.
