A decomposed body found in a creek near Dunbar in rural Marinette County has been identified.
Sheriff Jim Kanikula said Thursday that 28-year-old Eric Volp of Iron Mountain, Mich., had been missing since October until a trout fisherman discovered the body Monday.
Kanikula said Volp suffered blunt trauma to his chest, some trauma to his head and several broken bones but the exact cause of death is unknown.
He said Volp was last seen in Iron Mountain walking from a bar early Oct. 11. He did not own a car.
His family said Volp was from New Berlin but lived in Iron Mountain about 10 months. They said the discovery of the body hopefully will help police find answers. They added, "We pray for those who took Eric and brought his life to an early and tragic end."
