The body of a woman found in Illinois is that of a Wausau resident who had been missing since early September.
Friends and family of Rebecka Braenne had become worried after she left with an acquaintance for St. Louis and never returned home or made contact with anyone in Wausau.
According to KMOV in St. Louis, Braenne's body was found on the morning of Sept. 11, with a gunshot wound to the head.
"East St. Louis was investigating a Jane Doe, a found body," said Tom Kujawa, Marathon County Sheriff's Department, "and our detective made contact with East St. Louis and we were able to make a positive identification."
The Marathon County Sheriff's Department and Wausau police are assisting East St. Louis Authorities in their investigation.
