Karaoke Contest Draws Big Crowds at Riverfront Rendezvous

For 25 years Riverfront Rendezvous has been bringing free entertainment to the Stevens Point area every Fourth of July. This year is no different with activities for all ages.
While most people come for the fireworks and big name bands Riverfront Rendezvous has to offer, many people are starting head to a newer attraction everyone can take a part in.
Five years ago event organizers wanted to create a karaoke contest as as spin off of a popular television show. Organizers say since then the Point Idol competition has rapidly become a crowd favorite.
The contest brings in area performers to sing karaoke for a chance to win some big bucks. Organizers say the event is something different that everyone can enjoy.
Along with a cash prize, the winner of this year's contest opportunity to open for tonight's musical act on the main stage. Organizers say the competition helps many entertainers find the courage to get on stage and perform.
For people who don't find singing one of their strong suits, the Carp Classic Fishing Contest gave anglers a chance to reel in some prizes as well. Fisherman could fish from shore or by boat, but like the name suggests the only fish that qualified were carp, suckers, and dogfish.
