Marshfields Fire Chief says more than a dozen intersections could soon be safer in emergencies.
The chief says in the coming months, the department's engines will be outfitted with global positioning systems.
The system will change more than a dozen intersections traffic lights from red to green, saving time for fire fighters.
Not only will it improve safety, its also expected to shave seconds off the department's response times, which have continued to grow as the city expands.
The fire department also recently installed dash cam video systems in their primary engines to record both time and troubles faced during an emergency.
Ground breaking on Marshfields new central fire station is also expected to reduce response times, an exact date for the construction has not been set.
