Train Collides With Semi
The Portage County Sheriff's department received a call at approximately 9:04 a.m. Monday. The County Concrete Corporation placed the call, reporting that there was a semi and train crash in front of their building.
Deputies responded to the scene where witnesses say the driver tried to cross the private railroad crossing, heading west when the collision happened. The driver of the semi walked away without injury, however his tractor trailer was destroyed.
"In speaking with the driver of the tractor trailer he stated to the deputy that was investigating that he did not see the train coming nor did he hear the train whistle," said Lieutenant Dean Colrud of the Portage County Sheriff's Department.
The accident is still under investigation by the Portage County Sheriff's Department.
