Wausau is in the spot light again for one of it's often forgotten wonders. Wausau's river district is being taken over for Whitwater Weekend.
The kayaking and canoeing event is the largest in the midwest, bringing in paddlers from across the country. This event doesn't have as many national competitors as other events, but organizers say it's allowing the athletes to compete in different boats than their used to to enhance thier technique.
Even if you've never been kayaking before organizers say it's a great family event to watch that's right in our backyard.
Wausau's Whitewater Park is located near the library and offers great views of the competition. The event will be continuing through Sunday, and organizers hope many families come out to enjoy the unique attraction.
