Wood County's economy will take a bit of a hit this fall. That's because cranberry production is down this year.
The Wisconsin State Cranberry Grower's Association says 3.15 million barrels will be produced this year, compared with last year's 3.21 million barrels.
Wood County agricultural agents say the summer drought contributed to the lower harvest. And some cranberry growers experienced winter kill because there wasn't enough cold weather to make ice and protect the berries. But in the end, Wisconsin is still the largest producer of cranberries in the country.
