Police say it started as a confrontation but turned into a violent stabbing.
Now the Stevens Point victim is in stable condition following emergency surgery.
And another man is behind bars--facing a possible charge for attempted murder.
Neighbors say they heard a commotion and sirens around 7 p.m. Monday night (11/13).
And though it was dark they could see the emergency crews surrounding the 1300 block of Briggs Street.
Police say 32 year old John Harris--came to this house to confront a 45 year old man who lives here.
They say Harris stabbed the man in the stomach and hit him in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun.
It was early this morning when investigators say they tracked Harris down at a home in the Town of Dewey, north of Point.
But though Harris is now behind bars--some neighbors are still shaken up.
"It's kind of scary when you're living in an area and you have all this stuff going on this close to you. You really think about locking your doors twice before you go to bed and everything," says Randy Fifrick, who lives just doors away from where the stabbing happened.
Another neighbor says there has been some drug activity in that area.
But police tell us the fight did not appear to be drug related. They say they're still looking for a motive.
John Harris is not actually charged yet. He is expect to be in Portage County Court on Wednesday (11/15) for a bond hearing.
The D.A. says he will most likely charge Harris with attempted murder and possibly aggravated assault.
