Manufacturers blame less snow and the increased popularity of all-terrain vehicles for a significant slowdown in snowmobile sales.
Wisconsin has 216,000 registered snowmobiles. The sport is important to winter tourism.
The International Snowmobile Association says sales of snowmobiles are at their lowest point in 13 years in the U.S.
One of the bigger manufacturers, Polaris, expects to finish the year down 40 percent in snowmobile sales compared to last year.
Polaris also makes all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles. Spokesman Richard Edwards says snowmobiles are becoming a smaller part of the company.
