The economy is having an affect on the number of women looking for birth control.
That's according to Lon Newman the Executive Director at Family Planning Health Services in Wausau.
He says in the last 6 months, the number of patients at their 7 clinics has gone up about 30%.
Their Marathon County clinic alone saw more than 100 new patients during the month of March.
He says some families are waiting to have children until the economy gets better.
" I think people are looking at their economic situation and saying I need to go back to school, I just lost my job I can't afford to have another child right now I'm going to postpone my child bearing for a year or two or three."
Newman says oral contraceptives are still the most popular choice for preventing unwanted pregnancies.
He says they're also seeing an increase in women looking for more long-term birth control options.
