The Annual Rummage for a reason is getting off to a big start in Unity.
One of the organizers says they had to bring in more tables to accommodate the increase in rummage donations from the community.
For the next couple of days the Village of Unity will be a treasure hunters paradise. The 6th Rummage For A Reason is expected to bring hundreds of people looking for gently used merchandise priced as low as 25 cents.
Heidi Rueden is originally from Unity but now lives in Colby. She says she takes a day off work to look for good deals.
"Today I got some clothes for work, and some stuff for camping got a good deal $4 for stuff that would have been originally $50."
Rueden says she's been coming since they started simply because the proceeds go to a good cause.
Organizers say the rummage sale is held in honor of their mother Rita Reise, and the charity work she did for a local food pantry.
"We're giving to the Colby Food Pantry, to support what they started and also to the Spencer Food Pantry and I've been told by the people who work in Spencer that now more than ever they have a need and are depending on the sale and the funds that come from it," says Judy Baumgarten.
Baumgarten says they raised several thousand dollars for each of the food pantries but the proceeds from the rummage sale don't stop there.
Her sister Sue Hubing says anything they don't sell goes to missions in Africa, and Costa Rica.
"Unity is a very small village we don't have a lot of revenue here but what we are doing is very big. Not only helping the surrounding communities it goes out throughout the world."
Organizers say this rummage sale is an opportunity to honor their mother's life and continue her legacy of giving to those in need.
Rummage For A Reason runs Thursday, April 16th and Friday, April 17th, 7a.m. - 7p.m., and Saturday, April 18th from 9a.m. to noon at the Unity Memorial Hall.
