Rick Buntrock and Anne Wait were married in a hot air balloon above the American Legion Golf Course in Wausau.

Pilot Steve Wolller says it was the first ever, hot air balloon marriage in central Wisconsin.

"They've seen us flying balloons in the summertime and they decided to stop in one day we were doing a flight," said Pilot Steve Woller, "They decided they were gonna get married and said 'let's do it in a hot air balloon, it would be neat and stuff, so here we are."

The bride and groom climbed into a 90' tall by 85' wide balloon with the pastor and two attendants.

The closest friends and family members crammed into three other balloons and headed up to see the couple getting hitched.

"I went to the church and met with Pastor John and said, 'so, are ya afraid of heights?.'" said bride Anne Wait, "'No, why?' I said, 'Rick and I are getting married.' He goes, 'what does that have to do with heights?' And I said, 'we want to get married in a hot air balloon.'"

According to the pilots the weather was perfect for a balloon ride. Not too hot, no rain and the winds were just right.

After a 12-year courtship, the couple was married during the hour-long balloon ride. The entire wedding party eventually landed safely.
