Free gunlocks were handed out in Portage County Friday. The free gunlocks were provided by Project ChildSafe to help improve gun safety.
Twenty million gunlocks are being distributed across the United States. Over 300 thousand will be handed out in Wisconsin, and officials in Stevens Point handed out 1,000 gun locks.
Sergeant Mike Lucas of the Portage County Sheriff's department says gun safety is key.
"With these (gun locks) it's impossible to fire if it's placed properly," Lucas says.
Lucas says along with using the gun locks, it's important to store your guns safely, away from ammunition.
