(AP) -- A company that makes components for diesel engines is laying off dozens of employees in western Wisconsin.
Cummins Filtration says that because of a decrease in demand for its products, 127 workers will lose their jobs.
The layoffs include 44 people in Bloomer where 175 remain employed, 30 in Black River Falls where 163 are still employed and 53 in Viroqua where 265 workers remain.
Brillion Iron Works is laying off 80 workers and furloughing others for two weeks.
It makes products for semi trucks and other commercial vehicles.
The company has shut down for two weeks, furloughing 305 employees. The company also says 80 workers won't return when production resumes April 6. That's on top of 185 workers already laid off.
A company spokeswoman says the recession and industry problems have hurt business.
And the Appleton school board has given final approval to terminating 43 teachers, cutting nearly $2 million from a projected budget deficit.
The layoff notices for the 43 teachers approved Monday eliminate the equivalent of about 30 full-time positions next fall.
The cuts are widespread and include physical education, art, science, math, special education and other programs.
The district is projecting a $3 million budget shortfall for 2009-2010.
