Results of a recount finished tonight in Portage and Waushara counties show Louis John Molepske Junior defeated Republican Jackie Szehner by 140 votes in the 71st Assembly District.

Returns on election night last week had Molepske winning by 138 votes.

Szehner requested the recount, but she says she doesn't plan to contest the recount results in court. Molepske says he didn't expect a 138-vote error.

Molepske replaces former Democratic state Representative Julie Lassa. She won a special election earlier this year to the state Senate.

Molepske's win and a Republican victory in another special election in southern Milwaukee County means Republicans control the Assembly 59-40.
