Ekbal Singh Bursa of Fairfax, Virginia and Malkit "Mike'' Singh of Brigantine, New Jersey are accused of kidnapping convenience store owner Waheed Akhtar, resulting in his death. They're also accused of kidnapping Akhtar's nephew, Mukarek Iqbal and conspiracy to kidnap both.

Authorities say Bursa and Singh attacked the Akhtar at his home last March, striking him repeatedly in the head with a ten-pound dumbbell. Akhtar owns the Fun and Fast Travel Center in Francis Creek.

The indictment says the two then went to the convenience store and assaulted Iqbal, who was working. It says the two then took Akhtar and his nephew to Atlantic City where Iqbal escaped. Akhtar's body was found days later in a fresh grave in Palermo, New Jersey.

The two could face the death penalty if the federal Department of Justice chooses, but prosecutors say that's a long way off.

Three others are accused of lying to investigators to cover up the crime.
