A local Real Estate Agent says the housing crisis affecting most of the country isn't impacting Northcentral Wisconsin.
Ron Zahrt of First Weber Realtors in Wausau says the $8,000 tax credit President Barack Obama is offering first time home buyers appears to be working.
Zahrt says right now there are about 1,300 homes available in the Wausau area.
He says $120,000- $150,000 is the "Perfect Price" range.
He says homes in that range usually sell the fastest and are the greatest supply.
Zahrt says low interest rates and high quality of life ratings make Northcentral Wisconsin an ideal place to buy a home.
"We live in the stable Midwest. We've never seen the big spike in home prices, like they have on the coasts. In other words we've never seen substantial gains but we've never seen the losses either."
Zahrt says if you are looking for a new home talk to a local lender and get pre-approved for a loan before you start looking.
"The first logical step I suggest to anyone buying a home is talk to a local lender. You want to get pre approved because that sets the bench mark of what you can afford."
Zahrt says buying a home is always a good investment he says even in bad times the average home increases in value by 4% each year.
