Should high school students have to pay for extra-curricular activities they don't participate in? A subcommittee at Stevens Point Area High School is recommending that every student be charged the $20 extra-curricular activity fee, even if they aren't involved in any activities.
Superintendent David Schuler says the proposal was intended to avoid having to cut programs, but it hasn't received a lot of support.
"I don't see it happening. I don't think there's the support from the board there for it to happen. The committee did great work, but I just don't see the support from the board."
The school board will review the budget next week. The school's business services committee just submitted their budget proposal. It includes a reduction in both the tax levy and mill rate.
