EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- The mother of one of the two young people killed in a drunken driving crash near Eau Claire thinks a year in jail isn't enough for the driver responsible for the deaths.
The jail term, plus 10 years probation, is the recommendation of both the prosecution and defense as part of a plea agreement for David Jacobson of Osseo.
The 18-year-old Jacobson pleaded guilty Thursday in Eau Claire County Circuit Court to two felony counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle as part of the agreement. He faces sentencing April 27.
Sandie Johnson says Jacobson has offered no apology to the victims' families and has shown no remorse. Johnson says the recommendation is "a slap on the wrist."
Nineteen-year-old Michael Hiatt and 23-year-old Shawn Loescher died as a result of the Aug. 25 crash. Johnson is Hiatt's mother.
