A diverse coalition of community leaders had earlier urged the governor not to make the vetoes.

Doyle said Thursday during a stop in Milwaukee, that he didn't think expanding school choice was a matter that should be included in the state budget.

The school choice program allows low-income students to attend private schools at public expense.

Democratic Mayor John Norquist, Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan were among local leaders who met with Doyle this month urging him not to veto the school choice provisions.
