A Senate committee is discussing whether to require safety training for ATV operators across the state. They're also looking into upping the level of penalties for drunken ATV driving.
This year alone, there have been 15 deaths with ATVs. The DNR reports that almost half of those deaths involved alcohol. Marathon County ATV coordinator Dave Marg thinks training is a good idea.
""The senate is definitely heading in the right direction by increasing penalties for operators that are caught with alcohol in their system,"" he said.
