Kids aged nine to 11 have plenty opportunity to get hurt during the summer.

They are becoming more independent and are home alone more often. So the 8th annual Safety Camp tried to teach kids some lessons about safety.

One of the sessions focused on ATV safety.

ATV safety instructors wanted to make sure kids wear a helmet at all times, and that they ride on the appropriate sized vehicle.

Kids under 12 can't ride on an ATV with an engine over 90 CC's.

Kids should also wear chest protectors, gloves, and long pants.

Instructors say the lesson wasn't enough to replace a safety course, but many kids ride ATV's at a friend's house, and they should at least know the basics.
