Gov. Doyle Says He May Veto the Entire Budget

Gov. Jim Doyle says unless the Legislature makes some changes to the Joint Finance Committee's budget proposal, he might veto the entire budget.

That would be the first time in state history a governor vetoed the entire budget. Wisconsin Governor's have some of the broadest veto powers in the country.

Doyle says the Republican's budget bill hurts schools and local government, and he is not afraid to simply start over from scratch.

"We'll see whether the legislature puts that budget on my desk," Doyle said Tuesday. "If they do, I'll use every executive authority I have, partial veto, my total veto to protect education in this state."
