The winter weather has many of us feeling the winter blues, and if you couple that with the struggling economy, more people may be at risk for Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, this year.

A psychotherapist tells us some of the signs of sad include loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, anxiety, hopelessness and weight gain.

Because we live in a colder state, we are 14% more likely to come down with the disorder.

"I encourage people to get outside, even on a day when you have a couple hours of sun, go for a walk," says Psychotherapist David MacIntyre.

He says there are many ways other than prescription drugs to treat seasonal affective disorder, including light therapy, where you sit under a light for 20 minutes each day. But if you feel any symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately.
