Stephen VanVleit will spend 12-years in prison.
Judge Fred Kawalski passed the sentence Friday afternoon in Langlade County Court.
The 59-year old VanVleit pleased guilty to homicide by drunk driving for crashing his pick up into an Antigo area motel room in the summer of 2007.
26-year old Jesus Castillo, who was asleep inside, was killed in the accident.
Prosecutors say VanVleit's blood alcohol level was more than four times the legal limit when it happened.
Castillo's family was not in court, but the judge read statements from them before passing the sentence.
Along with the prison time, the judge also sentenced VanVleit to 11-years extended supervision and 3-years probation following the prison time.
