Federal 'No Call' List Should Complement Wisconsin Law

He recommends signing up for both to add another barrier against unwanted calls.

Glen Loyd is a spokesman for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

He says state officials are still analyzing the national list and its effect on Wisconsin's list.

Wisconsin law allows businesses to call people on the no-call list only if they are an existing customer or if they have their explicit permission.

Federal law allows businesses to call people who've done business with them in the past 18 months.

The federal list does add some addition protections to the Wisconsin list. It includes cellular phones, has higher fines and regulates hang-up calls from telemarketers' automatic dialers.
