A Sargeant who's been on the front line, Daniel Weigel, came back to his alma mater today to tell the students how much he appreciated getting their letters while he was at war in Iraq.

"After intense combat and continual lack of contact with the outside world it was a breath of fresh air to have those letters come in," says Weigel. It took more than a month for their written thoughts to get to Weigel but once they did, the letters were passed around and shared by fellow marines.

He told the 10th grade class who wrote about conditions in the desert. The assault vehicle mechanic was part of the 7th Marine Combat team. His unit helped seize the Ramallah oil fields.

Weigel brought some war mementos to share with the students but the best part of the visit was seeing the man they'd reached out to. Weigel graduated from DC Everest High School in 1999.
