The 12th Annual Festival of Trees to benefit the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services kicked off on Friday. The event is at the Rose Garden in Wausau and auctions are open until Sunday at 3:30.
This year there are about 95 different decorations to bid on. Jeff Anderson, Annual Giving Manager for Aspirus Health Foundation, says that this year there are two ways to bid.
"They can bid in the silent auction and they can come back throughout the week and check on theirs bids, or new this year they can have the opportunity to buy it now. There is a buy in now price on every item," he said.
Anderson said that they average 165,000 dollars a year but are hoping to beat the average and raise 190,000 dollars.
All of the items up for bid are decorated and donated by individuals and businesses in the community. The festival has a variety of decoration such as trees and wreaths. Each item at the Festival of Trees is decorated to a theme. This year a few of the themes were Pez, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Christmas elegance, and music. There is also a raffle for items such as clothing, additional decorations, a weekend getaway in Door County, or a Packer tailgate package.
Paula Krzanowski entered a tree for the first time this year. She said that the tree took her about seven hours to decorate and get ready for the festival. Despite the time and effort she is happy to help out a cause that is close to her heart.
"I'm really grateful that it's going to the hospice, I had an Aunt that passed away and spent time at the hospice and I think it's a great thing to give to," she said.
