AAA predicts 29 million to hit the roadways this holiday weekend. They say more people are traveling because they are ready to get after dealing with the recent slow economy and war with Iraq.

State patrols warn drivers to buckle up and slow down. State patrols and local law enforcement are stepping up their patrols to enforce these rules.

The new seat belt law is now in place, so officials will keep a lookout for seat belt violators.

Last year, 1,226 people were involved in car accidents in Wisconsin. Out of those crashes, 13 were fatal crashes.

Local officials also suggest planning trips ahead of time and traveling at off-peak hours. Peak hours for the weekend will probably be around 4, 6 and 7 p.m.
