Gilman Care Center has announced that it will be closing down its operation in the near future, with a loss of thirty-five jobs and relocation of 23 residents.
According to Jack Halbleib, President of Covenant Care LLC which manages the facility, a combination of reduced occupancy, low government reimbursement rates and the difficulty in retaining quality staff led to this decision.
Megan Feirtag, the facility Administrator, noted that while good care was being provided to residents, it has been difficult to manage efficiently with a population in the mid-twenties.
“There is intense competition for the same resident with multiple nursing homes in the area, all in significantly larger cities. Meetings are being set up to provide families with information and options to ensure a smooth transition to a new facility. Families will also be able to explore whether an alternate living arrangement may be possible with various representatives from Care Agencies invited to present options to families.” Feirtag noted.
The facility has been operated by the current ownership team since October, 2007.
