People across the country are snatching up guns left and right following this year’s presidential election, and that’s because gun enthusiasts aren’t sure whether or not President Elect Barack Obama will change the rules of gun ownership when he takes office.

A gun shop owner in Marshfield says “everybody and anybody” is coming in to buy guns.

“There hasn’t been anyone group of people,” said Scott Schoenherr, owner of Bull’s Eye Sports Shop. “It’s just anybody that fears they may not be able to buy that gun in the future.”

Gun enthusiasts say that fear is coming from not hearing enough about Obama’s thoughts on gun control during the campaign.

"He's definitely not pro gun," Schoenherr said.

He says people are fearing President Elect Obama could put a high tax on ammo and guns, or even take away the right to own high-capacity magazine guns like the AR-15. In fact, he says the price of an AR-15 has jumped twenty to thirty percent since the election because the demand for them is no so high.

"We used to be able to call up and get them in a day and we can't do that anymore,” Schoenherr said. “There's a long wait for them because of the demand."

While the demand for the tactical-style rifles is up, Schoenherr says handgun sales are up the highest. He says gun store owners around the state are experiencing the same kind of demand given how busy the Wisconsin Department of Justice has been with handgun checks.

"They'll normally process around three thousand hand gun checks in the month of November and as of the tenth of November they were already at 2300," he said.

But still, with issues like the Iraq War and the economy, it is hard to say if Obama’s administration will even have time to think about gun control.

In Shoenherr’s words, “he’s got bigger fish to fry right now.”

I'm not paranoid, Im prepared, there is a difference. I won't give much for a location because this household has added 4 guns (no handguns)in the last 5 weeks plus another gun safe. Besides they are all American made and this is just our way of helping the economy.

If I lived on the south side of Chicago, I'd be anti-gun too. In fact, I'd be pro-RUN. The same paranoid minds who need to buy guns are just as paranoid that the government (them thar dimmycrats) are taking them away. Your guns have just as much a future in the Democrat's hands as abortions do in Republican's hands. Wake up and smell the napalm.
