As we near the last day of school some parents are just beginning to wade through the options for their kids.
One of the places we'll visit is the Royal Gaits stable in Athens. They're getting ready for their summer horse camp. The kids start by learning the basic like how to groom a horse and how to saddle a horse. By the end of a week-long resident camp, children are usually able to trot. Other options for kids in Central Wisconsin are as follows: Central Wisconsin Children's Theatre in Wausau. Call Joelle Murray at 715-842-4416. There are four week-long camps this summer for all ages from 4-16. The productions planned this summer are "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Wizard of Oz". YMCA Chicken Little Pre-School Camp runs from June 16-August 29th. The camp runs from 9:00AM to Noon but additional pre and post care is available for an extra fee. Call your local YMCA for details or visit www.ymca-camp.org Camp Sturtevant is a YMCA day camp for kids ages 6-12. The camp runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from June 16 -- Aug. 29. Camp is located off Northwestern Avenue on the Eau Claire River. Boys and Girls Club has special summer programming. Contact the one closest to you. Some nearby camps include Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt, Camp Birchrock in Rhinelander, Camp Young Judaea in Waupaca, Helen Brachman in Almond, Clearwater Camp in Minocqua, Nicolet for Girls in Eagle River and Camp Timberlane for Boys in Woodruff. Area daycares are offering summer programs including the Rib Mountain Montessori at 715-355-0908. The Salvation Army also offers special summer programs. Contact your local chapter. Marathon County Public Libraries have summer programming that includes special guests to perform at various branches. Programs for the younger set includes "Book Babies", "Tales for Twos" and "Preschool Storytimes". There's a reading based competition for teens from June 16 to July 25.
