Kids Pick Up Trash Along the Wisconsin River

The banks and shoreline of the Wisconsin River got some loving attention from nearly 300 Wausau area high schoolers Friday.

It was all part of the 4th Annual Wisconsin River Cleanup Project. Kids picked up the usual cans and bottles, and even the occasional raft of dock that had floated into the river.

The DNR says it’s important that kids help out with the project for two reasons:

  • One, there is no way they could pick up all the trash with just the adult volunteers.
  • Two, its important for the kids to develop a sense of civic pride in keeping the Wisconsin River clean.
